How to Handle a Crisis on Reddit

By

A crisis hit your company. Now there's a Reddit thread about it with 200 comments. Here's what to do.

Don't ignore it

Ignoring a Reddit crisis doesn't make it go away. It makes it worse. The conversation happens with or without you. If you're not there, the narrative forms without your input.

Respond quickly

Get in the thread as soon as you can. Acknowledge the problem. Don't make excuses. Say you're working on it and will update.

Speed matters. The first voice in the conversation sets the tone.

Be transparent

Don't hide behind corporate speak. Admit what went wrong. Explain what you're doing to fix it. People forgive mistakes. They don't forgive cover-ups.

Don't delete comments

Deleting negative comments makes everything worse. Reddit keeps records. Screenshots spread. The deletion becomes the story.

Let criticism stand. Respond to it. That's how you rebuild trust.
